Meal Prepping 101: A Beginner's Guide
What is meal prepping? And, why would I want to prep my meals in advance? Well, I’m glad you asked that….
What is Meal Prepping?
The art of meal prepping is the process of preparing, cooking, and/or packaging food for 3-4 days in advance so you know exactly what and how much you are eating.
It is a very intentional mindset towards eating. Having a healthy meal ready to enjoy can help you stay on track; and more importantly, it helps you to say “no” to unhealthy food choices.
Tempted to go through the drive-through on your way home from work? You’re tired and it’s been a long day? Your mind is exhausted and cannot make anymore decisions? No worries! You’ve already got a delicious meal at home waiting for you!
Someone just walked into the office with bagels and cream cheese for lunch? The Taco Truck just pulled up outside? No worries! No sweat! You’ve already packed a yummy lunch and you’re looking forward to feeding your body well.
Why Meal Prep?
Perhaps the boy scouts said it the best, “Be Prepared”. It’s a slogan that is tried and true and has stood the test of time. And it certainly is true when it comes to what you eat and how you eat: Preparedness matters if you want to reach your health and wellness goals.
In fact, one study showed that there is actually a link between the amount of time people spend on prepping food at home and the quality of their diet. The study suggests that time might be an essential ingredient in the production of healthier eating habits. Meal prepping can be a great-time saver!!! You do all the chopping, cooking and cleaning on one day.
